Daocheng

Daocheng

Scene Introduction

DaochengDaocheng, located on the southeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the east of Hengduan Mountains, is a county subordinated to the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan. Over 96% of the people living in Daocheng's county seat are Tibetans. Daocheng was spoken of as the 'last pure land on earth'. The startling images of Daocheng and the way of life of local tribes and ethnic groups were first shown to the world when the famous American adventurer Joseph Rock issued his article and photographs of Daocheng in the National Geographic after traveling in the county.

Daocheng is in the south end of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture with Yading as its core scenic area. It owns endless forest, all different color of flowers blooming, crystal clear streams flows, some small monastery with friendly monks hiding among the  mountain, and most important, till you get to Luorong Cattle Farmland, you will find that this is a beautiful grassland that surrounded by 3 holy snow capped Mountains: Xianuoduoji, Yangmaiyong, Xiannairi, which are the holy mountain for the Tibetan people and also been considered to be the 3 bodhisattva’s incarnation. In addition, the Zhenzhu (Pearl), Wuse (Five Clolor) and Niunai (Milk) lakes appears as glittering fragments of jasper on the plateau. The most unforgettable pastoral scenery of Daocheng is at its best between Sangdui and Sela townships.

daocheng peopleDaocheng has a long history of culture. Of the 13 monasteries in the county, Xiongden Monastery and Gonggaling Monastery are the best known. Grandly constructed, Gonggaling Monastery possesses a bronze statue of Maitreya presented by Dalai Lama V. Xiongden Monastery, built in the Ming Dynasty, keeps 100,000books of Buddhist scriptures, and in the same monastery Daochengseveral hundreds of Buddha figures, huge or small, are consecrated, one of them is the sandal wood figure of Sakymuni presented by Panchan Lama IX. The Tibetan people in China are of the same forefathers, but because of the non-group living and the separation of mountains and rivers all the Tibetan people do not share the same language, costumes or customs. With the strong religious atmosphere, Daocheng bears some unique and abstruse cultural flavors. Daocheng is a pretty country maiden who has been staying at her boudoir and unknown to the outside world. Its heavenly natural cenery, simple and unsophisticated customs, and mystical primitive human landscapes, having broken through the barrers of time and space, shine with charm and enchantment which have attracted photographers, whose artistic pictures present its beauty and charm before us.
